About our Lodge
The Great Sand Dunes Lodge, located at the entrance of the Great Sand Dunes National Park, nestles at the foothills of the Front Range of the Rockies. Set at an altitude of 8100 feet, its backyard, facing the Sangre de Christo, is filled with pinion pines on the sloping range that gradually rises up to the majestic 14,000 ft peaks.
A hiker’s paradise, pristine lakes reward the efforts of those who make it to the top. To the West lies the vast expanse of the San Luis Valley “where the buffaloes roam, and the deer and the antelope play.” Beyond it in the distant horizon are the San Juan Mountains. Sitting out on the patio facing west, spectacular sunsets lure the amateur and professional photographer alike. However, the main attraction here is still the ever present Great Sand Dunes that look like a painting with the backdrop of mountains with jagged peaks.
